De-influence Your Home
When is it enough? When is our home done? When will we be content with the way things are?
Oh the questions and wonderings sparked by an ever influenced home. We spend so much of our lives being influenced when do we have time to appreciate and love what we have? Better yet, how do we appreciate and love what we have? I have a few tips and tricks on how we can come to appreciate and love our homes just as they are.
Taking time to slow down
My number one suggestion is slowing down. You don’t have to leave your home every single day. Have you felt that urge to just get out? Don’t you think it’s strange that we are trying to escape our homes? Slow down your life, ease up on your commitments and learn to be okay staying home. Your home becomes a place you want to be when you learn to stay there and enjoy the times you are there. Find hobbies and things that you enjoy that can be done at home. Our homes should be a place where we recharge and feel restored. Pick up reading, learn to create something beautiful with your hands. When you feel good being in your home, it becomes more beautiful.
Turning the screens down or better than that turn them off!
Nothing makes me feel like I need a change and need to go shopping more than the internet. We all know the beast that is social media and how it can make us feel inadequate, behind or even just bored and left wanting. Especially those notorious “Deals” influencers or liquidation stores with the latest half off retail stock. Just showing you all the money you could save or the latest and coolest life saving thing that will solve all your problems! Even just the TV on, can leave us feeling we need to consume more things. Have you ever felt over-stimulated from just the noise of the television? Gotten that, “we’ve been here all day stuffed up in this house with that TV on” headache? And then proceeded to pile everyone in the car to find you have nowhere you need to go, so let's just walk around this store or the mall? And you might think you don’t do it but I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve said let's go to Scheels or Ikea because the kids will like it! It’s not shopping if the kids can play and run off some energy, right? And every time, I’ve purchased things I didn’t need or even really want.
Taking care of and cleaning our homes
My last tip is to clean your house! Seriously, taking care of what you have makes you love it more, I swear. Just having a clean house is one of the most satisfying things-prove me wrong. Those happy endorphins influence you to care, to want to do it again and to enjoy your home. Taking care of what you have helps you appreciate what you have. Appreciating what you have helps you enjoy what you have and see the beauty in it.
Do ALL these tips and tricks and I don’t doubt you will start to love your home and see how beautiful it is. If you do all these and still aren’t liking your home then take a look at my thoughts on decluttering your space. It’s hard to take care of your space with too much in it.
